Block withheld numbers
On by default — most unwanted withheld calls are cold calls. But you can turn it off in one tap.
What is a withheld number?
A withheld call is one where the caller has chosen not to share their number. On your phone, you see "Withheld" or "Private number" instead of a number. Anyone can withhold their number by dialling a prefix before calling.
Why it's on by default
Cold callers and scammers often use withheld numbers to avoid being identified and reported. Since you can't check a withheld number against a list (there's no number!), blocking them by default spares you a good chunk of these calls. That's why Allociao blocks withheld calls right from install.
What about legitimate withheld calls?
Some withheld calls are perfectly legitimate. If you're expecting that kind of call, turn the option off so you don't miss anything:
- A doctor or medical practice calling back from a shared line
- An emergency service or a public body
- A social worker or a home-help service
- A loved one abroad using certain VoIP services
How to turn it off (or back on)
Go to Allociao's settings → "Protection" section and switch off "Block withheld numbers". The change is instant, with no need to restart the app. You can turn it back on the same way whenever you like. The getting-started guide also offers this setting on first use.
You always stay in control
As with everything else, you decide. If you change your mind — say because you're expecting a callback from the doctor — a quick trip to the settings is all it takes.
